Get To Know Our Sponsors - North Coast Credit Union

posted Mar 17, 2011 3:19 PM by Luke Kress

This years race wouldn't be possible without the phenominal support we have received from the business community around Whatcom County. Without them it wouldn't be possible to make sure that every dollar from this race goes directly to the Behind The Badge Foundation.

This year we are extremely fortunate to have three title sponsors for the race. To get to know them a little better we asked them a few questions about their involvement in the community and what this cause mean to them.

In this first installment we spoke to Terry Belcoe of North Coast Credit Union

How long have you been the CEO of North Coast Credit Union?

I’ve been President/CEO of NCCU since 2001.

How has your company been involved with the law enforcement community in the past?

North Coast Credit Union began as the City of Bellingham Employees’ Credit Union, incorporated on May 19, 1939, formed by a group of Bellingham firefighters to provide a financial cooperative to serve their fellow city employees, including the police department. We have been serving Bellingham’s law enforcement professionals ever since.

What other community events does your company support/participate in?

North Coast Credit Union has a strong culture of community involvement. In Whatcom County, we have been active in the American Cancer Society “Relay for Life,” the Big Brothers Big Sisters “Bowl for Kids Sake,” and numerous other efforts. Each year, we financially support the Bellingham Police Association’s magic show for kids.

In Skagit County, we are a partner in the Skagit Food Share Alliance; a collaboration aimed at acquiring healthy, locally grown produce for distribution to those in need through community food banks. We put on our annual “Bite of Skagit” event to raise funds for that effort. We are also the fiscal “partner” in the “Mountain of Hope” program, raising funds for critical needs for needy families in Skagit County.

Personally, I am very involved in the community, as shown in the list below:

- Past two-term board chair for the United Way of Whatcom County

- Past board member of the Whatcom Counseling and Psychiatric Clinic

- Past board member of Youthnet (Mount Vernon)

- Current board member of the Economic Development Association of Skagit County Foundation

- Current board chair of the Skagit County Community Action Agency

- Current board chair of the United Way of Skagit County

How did you become involved with the Fun with the Fuzz 5k?

I came across it by accident, spotting one of the brochures in a Starbucks last year. When I saw that, I knew it was something that our organization, which historically owes so much to the law enforcement professionals who have been a cornerstone of our organization since its inception over 70 years ago, should be a part of. I contacted the organizers and asked that we be allowed to support the effort in any way we can.

Are you going to run the 2011 Fun with the Fuzz 5k?

Absolutely.
